Memorial Day and the long weekend mean summer is here—even if it doesn’t officially arrive for a few more weeks. We’ve been keeping an eye on what’s happening in Blue Fern Homes’ area and there’s a lot to choose from. How will you celebrate Memorial Day in Seattle? If you’re still stuck for ideas, see if these spark your holiday weekend excitement.
Get out and enjoy this energized outdoor festival that celebrates the Pacific Northwest’s heritage, music, arts, and culture. More than 5,000 performers will take to 20 stages. Hundreds of vendors will serve up their food, drinks, and creations. The Pete Seeger Centennial Celebration will present an open jam, multimedia concert, kids sing-along, and memory wall. There’s also the Youth Rising Visual Arts Show, Circle of Indigenous Peoples Celebration, Indie Roots Showcase, and the KEXP Gathering Space that will showcase the talents of up-and-coming artists.
Flying Heritage & Combat Armor Museum, Everett
Get a realistic experience of the roaring roll of vintage tanks and artillery. Take a photo in front of a Huey helicopter. You’ll also see WWII reenactments and military vehicle demonstrations. Plus, entertain the kids with face painting, a scavenger hunt, and other family-friendly activities. A variety of food trucks will be serving something much better than military rations!
Spend any day this weekend treating your kids (and yourself) to hands-on activities at the Seattle Aquarium. Get a close look at what’s happening underwater by viewing the 120,000-gallon tanked filled with species that are native to the Pacific Northwest’s waters. Watch a variety of otters and seals—natural entertainers. And discover facts about marine life that will inspire you.
Magnuson Park, Seattle
Run or walk your choice of 5K, 10K, and 15K routes, or the Memorial Mile (1 mile). There’s also a Kids Dash so your children can join the fun (and work off some of that energy). It all starts at 10 a.m., the right way to kick off your weekend.
May 25 & 26
Enatai Beach Park, Bellevue
What better way to launch summer fun than taking to the water? Bring or rent a canoe, kayak, paddleboard, or pedal boat to spend a day on Lake Washington. The Grand Opening will celebrate Memorial Day with food, music, and activities.
May 24-June 9
Various theatres around Seattle
More than 400 films from 90 countries will be presented during this unique event, the largest and most highly attended film festival in the country! Treat yourself to a broad selection of exceptional films, spanning an equally wide array of movie genres.
Northwest Railway Museum, Snoqualmie
Take a scenic excursion on an antique train from the Snoqualmie Depot through the Cascade foothills and to the top of Snoqualmie Falls. Members of the military—active duty, guard, reserve, retired, and dependent family members—can take advantage of the Memorial Day special of a $5 roundtrip ticket.
May 25 & 26
Looking to get out of the city a bit this weekend? Head to Remlinger Farms for old-fashioned fun, like a roller coaster, petting zoo, rides (pony, steam train, and spinning barrels, to name a few), plus live entertainment and country fair food.
The Museum of Flight, Seattle
Every year, the Museum of Flight honors the Americans who served our country. The Boeing Employee Concert Band kicks off the event at 11 a.m., followed by a special ceremony that commemorates the fallen heroes.
As you’re enjoying Memorial Day event, think about what’s ahead for you. If a new home is in your future, Blue Fern Homes would like to guide you to the right choice.
